Turkey plans to pursue its objectives in northern Syria after completing a cross-border operation in Iraq against outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) fighters.a high-ranking Turkish official said today, after Sunday’s deadly bombing in Istanbul.
The Turkish government blames Kurdish fighters for the explosion on Istiklal Avenue in Istanbul on Sunday, which killed 6 people and injured more than 80.
Threats posed by Kurdish fighters or Islamic State to Turkey are unacceptable, the official noted, adding that Ankara will clear up threats along its southern border ‘one way or another’.
Turkey has carried out raids three times in northern Syria against the Syrian Kurdish YPG militia, which Ankara says is a wing of the PKK, as reported by Reuters and relayed by the Athens News Agency. The PKK has been designated a terrorist organization by Turkey, the US and the European Union.
