What we know about Kim Jong Un’s ‘favorite daughter’ – Will she take over leadership of North Korea after her father?

North Korean state media has not revealed much about the young girl who has made several appearances alongside the country’s leader, Kim Jong Un, in recent weeks. On New Year’s Day, photographs were released of them, without specifying when they were taken, during their visit to a nuclear missile facility. Her age and name have not been released. They refer to her as simply “the most beloved daughter” of Kim Jong Un.

That alone was enough to raise questions about the girl and his place in the dynasty, as well as whether she was being groomed to succeed her father.

THE North Korea it has no monarchy. Leaders are theoretically elected through the Labor Party. But in reality, the Kims have been in power as a private family company since the end of World War II, the New York Times reports.

Ju-ae’s public appearance marked the first time Pyongyang confirmed that Kim had a child. Until her debut in state media, the North Koreans had not seen any of his children. South Korean intelligence has said he has three children, the eldest possibly a boy. Ju-ae is his second child.

Analysts from abroad noted that she has been labeled a “favorite” and has been chosen to represent the next generation of the Kim family.

If Kim chooses a daughter instead of a son as successor, it will be a highly unusual move for the country’s leader. As the youngest of three sons, Kim stood out when his father chose him as his successor, analysts said. And although North Korea’s leadership is a male affair, Kim’s regime also includes some standout women.

By revealing his potential successor early, Kim may be trying to avoid his father’s mistakes, some analysts say. North Koreans had not seen Kim Jong Un until his appearance in state media in 2010. When his father died in 2021, there was much questioning, at home and abroad, about Kim’s abilities to lead the country. It took years for him to establish his power.
