What’s the loss for a user looking to buy the most basic MacBook Pro 14? The test results of the stripped-down SoC M1 Pro appeared

It’s no secret that the most basic of the new MacBook Pro 14 comes with a stripped-down M1 Pro SoC. For such a laptop, eight out of ten processor cores and 14 out of 16 graphics are available.

What does a user who wants to save lose? The first tests show that at least for the CPU, we are talking about a 20% decrease in performance in multi-threaded mode.

In Geekbench, such a laptop is gaining 1767 and 9948 points in single-threaded and multi-threaded modes, respectively. The first result is about the same as that of the uncut SoC M1 Pro, which is logical. But the second one is noticeably smaller (for an uncut platform it is 12,700 points).

That is, a 20 percent decrease in the number of active cores gives a 20 percent decrease in performance. But this is in a synthetic benchmark. In reality, as always, everything will depend on the application, but the first tests will already show this. As for the price, the M1 Pro with a 10-core CPU and 14-core GPU costs $ 200, and to get a fully active GPU, you will need to pay an additional $ 100.
