WhatsApp, from November it will no longer be possible to use it on these phones

As usual, every year WhatsApp spring support for older smartphones. From November 1st the most used chat in the world will no longer be usable for a series of smartphones considered obsolete: they would no longer allow you to make the most of the features, and there are many, that the platform controlled by Facebook now launches on a monthly basis.

What are the devices? In reality, in these cases, more than specific devices, we always talk about operating systems. Those that are equipped with a version of Android 4.0.4 or earlierand (one of the updates of Ice Cream Sandwich) will be cut off. It is still a release released in 2012, almost ten years ago, yet a minimal percentage of users – maybe for old spare phones left in a drawer – he might still have it installed. Chat updates, in fact, may not be supported not only from the point of view of the software but also of the hardware. They have to retire, at least for that app.

In the dedicated post on the official WhatsApp blog also remember that supported Android devices must be able to “receive SMS messages or calls during the verification process”. For this reason, but this is not new, the group specifies to offer “limited support for Android tablets with an active Sim card” and not to support “devices equipped exclusively with the Wi-Fi function”. In short, you need a data plan so that you can receive messages even when the device is not connected to a Wi-Fi network.

Anyone who still has phones with that old operating system should switch to a supported device and believe it save the chat history by November 1st. You need to open the application, choose the item “Other options” and then “Settings”, follow the path towards “Chat” and “Chat backup”, and then run it.
