WhatsApp voice messages can be listened to in the background

Over the past several months, WhatsApp developers have been actively working on adding new features to voice messages. For example, in April last year, the messenger added the ability to change the playback speed of recordings, and in September it became known about the upcoming function that will allow users to decrypt voice notes using speech recognition technology. Last month, WhatsApp introduced another new feature that allows you to pre-listen to voice messages before sending them. Now the beta version of the application has the ability to listen to recordings in the background.

At the moment, you can listen to voice messages in WhatsApp only in the chat in which they were sent. When you switch to another chat, playback is interrupted. Resource WABetaInfo discovered a new panel for playing voice messages in the beta version of WhatsApp for Android (v2.22.3.1), which allows you to play recordings even if you exit the chat. The panel has a pause button and a scroll bar.

This feature is currently under development and is not available to users of the latest beta version of WhatsApp. The company hasn’t officially announced this change yet, so it’s unclear when it will begin rolling out to the beta channel. It is worth noting that WhatsApp has been developing this feature for a long time. It was first spotted in a beta version of the iOS app in October last year, but has yet to appear on Apple smartphones.
