The Ministry of Infrastructure is preparing for the first of the three Metro extensions. This is the extension of Line 2 of the Metro to Ilion with three new stations, with the relevant tender planned for the beginning of autumn.
The new expansion will cover densely populated areas of the capital such as St. Petersburg, Ilion and the Municipality of Agioi Anargyroi – Kamatero.
The new section will be 4 km long, will include 3 underground stations (PALATIANI, ILION and AGIOS NIKOLAOS) and will have a total budget of 350 million euros. The cost of the project will be financed by the NSRF 2021-2027.
The second concerns the extension of the Metro to Glyfada. The extension to Glyfada envisages the construction of three new stations, two of which will be located on Vouliagmeni Avenue and the third terminal in the church of Agios Konstantinos.
And the third, the extension to Kallithea, where the construction of 4 stations is planned, with the terminal located at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center.
Regarding the extensions of Line 4, as stated by the CEO of Attiko Metro, Nikos Kouretas, the first extension from Goudi to Maroussi is being studied. In this extension the geological and geotechnical researches have been completed and the rest of the studies will proceed soon. This extension will reach the National Road at the height of Lykovrisi and will have 11 stations. The cost of the project is estimated at 1.3 billion euros.
At the same time, the extension of line 4 from the Veikos Grove to St. Petersburg is being studied. This line will pass through densely populated areas such as Pefkakia, New Philadelphia and Agioi Anargyroi.
The extension of Line 3 is completed at the end of summer
At the end of the summer, the expansion of Line 3 of the Metro “Agia Marina-Piraeus” is expected to be completed.
The project includes a 7.6 km long tunnel and 6 new modern stations (Agia Varvara, Korydallos, Nikaia, Maniatika, Piraeus and Municipal Theater).
Already, the 3 stations “Agia Varvara”, “Korydallos” and “Nikaia” have been delivered for use to the passenger public and the three stations remain: “Maniatika”, “Piraeus” and “Municipal Theater”.
With the complete delivery of line 3, an important transport center is planned to be created at Piraeus station, operationally connecting two Metro lines (Line 1 and Line 3), the port, the Suburban Railway and the Tram, thus facilitating transfers between all means. transport.
With the completion of the projects, the journey from the port of Piraeus to the International Airport of the country will take 45-50 minutes, changing the shape of the largest port in the country, while it is estimated that it will help reduce traffic on the city streets by 20,000 cars.
