When commenting on inflation indicator, Biden highlights initial impact of war

In a statement released this Thursday (10) by the White House, the President of the United States, Joe Biden, highlighted that the American population “begins to feel the impacts of the aggression” from Russia to Ukraine with the increase in prices, comment on the 7.9% rise in the consumer price index (CPI) in February, the biggest annual increase in 40 years.

“A major contributor to inflation this month has been rising gas and energy prices as markets reacted to Russian President Vladimir Putin’s aggressive actions,” said Biden, who also highlighted the inevitable “domestic cost” of sanctions imposed on Moscow.

The Russians began the military offensive on Ukraine on the 24th of last month.

According to the president, however, the costs for Russian authorities and people close to the Kremlin are “much more devastating” than those borne by the Americans.

Still, the White House is “fighting” to lower US prices by freeing up strategic oil reserves, investing in domestic manufacturing and promoting competitiveness, Biden said.

The US president also highlighted that the country’s job market remains strong and that it is possible to reduce the budget deficit “inherited” from his predecessor, former President Donald Trump.
