When is the coronavirus expected to stop circulating in Great Britain?

The coronavirus will no longer circulate in Great Britain by August, the outgoing chairman of the government’s vaccine task force, Clive Dix, told the Daily Telegraph.

“At some point in August, the virus will no longer be available in the UK”, Dix said, adding that he believes the booster vaccine program may be postponed to early 2022.

The government is considering which vaccines against Covid-19 will provide the best booster vaccine for vulnerable people later this year.

Dix told the Telegraph he expected that everyone in the UK will have received at least one installment by the end of July, so “we will probably have protected the population from all the known variants”.

The United Kingdom has delivered more than 51 million vaccines and is the second country in the world with the fastest vaccination campaign having delivered at least one dose to more than half of the country’s adult population.

The British Vaccine Committee announced yesterday that people under the age of 40 should get an alternative vaccine to AstraZeneca where possible, due to the low risk of rare thromboembolic events.

The Joint Vaccination and Immunization Committee (JCVI) said in its opinion that the recommendation was linked to the low transmission rates of the Covid-19 epidemic in Britain and the availability of alternative vaccines from Pfizer / BioNTech and Moderna.

Dix, who was appointed interim chairman of the task force in December, resigned last week.
