When the Eiffel Tower “climbed” over a gorge

An artistic installation created a visual illusion and Eiffel Tower in Paris it looks like it is perched over a rocky gorge.

The artwork, by an artist using the pseudonym JR, includes the installation of a photograph of a gorge and the pillars that form the base of the Eiffel Tower, on the square where the famous attraction dominates.

When a visitor stands in the right place, the artwork in the foreground and the tower in the background align with each other and create the illusion.

“I think it’s really nice because it’s really realistic,” says one visitor, Lara Watson.

“I like that it is combined with the Eiffel Tower, so the work of art stands out as a work of art because it already has the Eiffel Tower behind it.”

Other works by the same artist include a wall installation on the US-Mexico border that looks like a huge baby looking over the wall.

The Eiffel Tower will reopen to the public on July 16

The Eiffel Tower, which had been closed since October 30 due to the health crisis, will reopen to the public on July 16 with a capacity of 50% in its elevators, the management company announced today at the French Agency.

The capacity will be, for this summer, 10,000 visitors a day, the same level as in the summer of 2020, compared to 25,000 before the crisis, said Sete, which forecasts a deficit of about 70 million euros for 2021 and is considering a recapitalization.

Tickets will go on sale on June 1, said Sete president Jean-François Marten, with two-thirds of bookings made online. The sale with physical presence of the tickets at the base of the Tower will be possible with its reopening.

Visitors will be able to access all floors, except for certain areas on the construction site, especially on the second floor.
