By the end of the year, it is estimated that the tender will be completed with the submission of financial bids for the major project of the submarine link Salamina Perama.
This means that by the end of the summer, all the necessary procedures will have been completed in order for the tender to be announced, with the basic approval of the environmental conditions of the project by the Ministry of Environment and Energy.
This will be followed by the submission of binding offers from the three pre-selected schemes, namely: TERNA, Mytilineos and Vinci – AKTOR Concessions.
At this stage, however, the Ministry is taking all necessary steps to prepare the tender by seeking technical advice on issues such as the evaluation of the final technical bids of the bidders, the preparation of a technical evaluation report, etc.
The budget of the contract amounts to 500 million euros, while the project is considered extremely important, because it will upgrade the whole of Western Attica and mainly, the wider area of Perama, but also Salamina. In particular, it will contribute on the one hand to the decongestion to a large extent of Perama and on the other hand to the upgrade of Salamina, covering with speed and safety the thousands of daily movements to and from it.
The exact concession period has not yet been determined while the contractor’s income will come from the collection of tolls of the users of the submarine tunnel.
According to the Environmental Impact Study, the total length of the project exceeds 11 km, including the underwater connection with a Road Tunnel 1 km long from Perama to the island of Agios Georgios. It will start from Faneromeni Avenue in the municipality of Salamina and extends north of the residential area, essentially operating as a ring road and ends at the Salamina port, where through the uneven circular junction of Paloukia it will continue to the island of Agios Georgios. Then the project continues through the submarine tunnel, about one kilometer long, with an exit to the area of Perama. From this point, the route moves from the uneven junction (A / K) of Perama within the area of the Naval Fortress Skaramagka to the existing Schistos Skaramagkas Avenue with which it is connected by an uneven junction.
Today with the ferries the connection Perama-Salamina lasts 15 to 20 minutes.
When the construction of the submarine tunnel is completed, the Perama-Salamina connection will take place in less than 5 minutes.
The ferry line will remain as a more economical alternative.
