Where do bartenders drink? With Isabel Gasparri, from Soul Botequim, in SP

Before taking over the counter Soul Bar in Brooklyn, Isabel Gasparri worked as a bartender in French-owned hotel chains in the city of São Paulo.

Graduated from the Brazilian Association of Sommeliers (ABS/SP), the professional also works today as a sommelier and is currently head of the bar at Soul Botequim. It is in her house in the south of São Paulo that she can be seen preparing cocktails such as penicillin, hibiscus margarita and even rows of negroni.

Outside of her counter, Isabel tries other drinks around the capital of São Paulo, going to bars in the center and in Pinheiros, for example. Below, check out sommelier and bartender Isabel Gasparri's favorite addresses for good drinks in São Paulo:

  • Gall

With the aim of highlighting classic drinks that have been forgotten by the general public, the letter from Gall contains cocktails from the end of the 19th century and the first decades of the 20th century along with information regarding the sources from which the recipe was taken and the profile of the drink. I consider it a true exercise in research and alcoholic curation.

And “the icing on the drink”, as I joke, is its location, as the bar is on the ground floor of the iconic Copan Building, in the center of São Paulo.

Gall: Ground floor of the Copan Building; Avenida Ipiranga, 200 – República, São Paulo – SP / No telephone / Opening hours: Monday to Thursday, from 5pm to midnight; Friday, from 5pm to 1am; Saturday, from 12pm to 1am; Sunday, from 2pm to 10pm.

  • Hocus Pocus SP

Psychedelia, innovation, provocation, a cool atmosphere and, of course, lots of craft beer, drinks and special food. This is how I describe Hocus Pocus .

Creativity permeates the bar, even reflected in the elaboration of the 18 types of draft beer and the mythical universe of the characters that appear on the labels. Located in the bohemian neighborhood of Pinheiros, it is a unique place for lovers of good drinks and good cuisine.

Hocus Pocus SP: Rua Fernão Dias, 690 – Pinheiros, São Paulo – SP / No telephone / Opening hours: Tuesday to Friday, from 5pm to midnight; Saturday, from 1pm to midnight; Sunday, from 12pm to 9pm.

  • Zebra Space

Interior of Espaço Zebra, in São Paulo

O Zebra Space It is an environment that incorporates a studio, art gallery and a drinks counter. It is one of those unique places that must be rediscovered with each visit.

The counter, which is manned by Neli Pereira , is an ideal place to try delicacies from our Brazil: jambu, cataia, uvaia, cambuci, tiquira and many other names somewhat forgotten (or unknown) by São Paulo residents. It's a bar in the Bixiga neighborhood for those who are thirsty for culture and Brazil.

Zebra Space: Rua Major Diogo, 237 – Bela Vista, São Paulo – SP / Tel.: (11) 91653-3120 / Opening hours: Friday and Saturday, from 7pm to midnight (closed at the beginning of 2024 until after Carnival)

  • Picco

Pizza and drinks, music and art: who can resist? It was not for nothing that Picco is on the list of 50 Best Discovery, an arm of 50 Best Restaurants that chooses some of the best discoveries in cities around the world.

For me, the biggest highlight of the drinks menu are the signature cocktails, which combine spirits and other ingredients traditionally associated with classic cocktails with Brazilian elements.

One of the best details is that the house is close to Praça Benedito Calixto, a place in the heart of São Paulo.

Picco: Rua Lisboa, 294 – Pinheiros, São Paulo – SP / Tel.: (11) 3081-0066 / Opening hours: Tuesday to Sunday, from 6pm to midnight.
