Where do chefs eat? With Caio Alciati, from LosDos Taqueria, in São Paulo

It was the passion for Mexican cuisine that inspired Gaius Alciati to open, alongside partner João Gertel, the LosDos Taqueria in Sao Paulo.

Longtime friends, the two, who also serve as executive chefs at the Pitico and Mica bars, both in Pinheiros, were driven by the desire to spread the country’s culture through the capital of São Paulo, which still has little habit of consuming tacos, according to them.

LosDos is located in a small doorway on Guaicuí street – one of the most bohemian and crowded streets in the Largo da Batata region – and welcomes the group to eat on the sidewalk, at small tables or standing up, why not?

It’s no wonder that Caio’s choices for this week’s column have the greatest atmosphere of bar food – unpretentious, but full of flavor. Find out below which addresses he likes to frequent when he’s not in charge of the small Mexican-influenced kitchen:

Golden Mouth

O Golden Mouth it is commanded by Ale (Alessandro Salerno) who is a genius, he does magic with everything. For me, there is no better tongue or liver in São Paulo than his. Everything he does turns to gold, for me he is the cook of cooks.

Rua Cônego Eugênio Leite, 1121 – Pinheiros, São Paulo – SP / Tel.: (11) 4371-3933 / Opening hours: Tuesday and Wednesday, from 6 pm to midnight, and Thursday to Saturday, from 6 pm to 2 am. Not open on Sundays and Mondays.

mouthful’s

for me the mouthful’s is the best pizza in São Paulo, whether in delivery or in person. The flavors are interesting and the place is unpretentious, which is the coolest thing. The wines are also very good. They know what they’re doing.

Dr Street Ribeiro de Almeida, 167 – Barra Funda or R. Delfina, 97 – Vila Madalena, São Paulo – SP / Tel.: (11) 95177-3061 / Opening hours: Wednesday to Sunday, from 7 pm to 11 pm. Only the Barra Funda unit is open at lunchtime on weekends. Not open on Monday and Tuesday.

Quito Quito Izakaya

O Quito Quito It’s a complete izakaya: the fish, sushi and sashimi portions are always very good, the hot portion is also wonderful, the fried foods, preserves… I like to go there to try different flavors together. A super cool place!

Al. Campinas, 1179 – Jardim Paulista, São Paulo – SP / Tel.: (11) 3586-4730 / Opening hours: Tuesday to Saturday, from 6 pm to 10:30 pm. Not open on Sundays and Mondays.

Bete’s Bar

O Bete’s Bar it is a peculiar place that has one of the great chickens in São Paulo. The bar became a stronghold for cooks on Sunday night. The chicken is surreal and the mocotó broth too, goes very well with a beer.

Rua das Palmeiras, 47 – Vila Buarque, São Paulo – SP / Tel.: (11) 3661-8206 / Opening hours: every day, from 7 pm to 7 am

Chi Fu

O Chi Fu He’s a Chinese man from Liberdade that I like a lot, those very “roots”. I love the crab with cured duck egg yolk, the fried frog, among other recipes. It’s a nice place to go with a lot of people, sit at a big table and order a lot of food, it’s always plenty. Important: they do not accept credit, debit or pix cards, only cash.

Praça Carlos Gomes, 200 – Liberdade, São Paulo – SP / Tel.: (11) 3101-8888 / Opening hours: every day, from 11 am to 3 pm and from 5:30 pm to 9 pm

Confessional Bar

O Confessional Bar serves one of the best fried chickens in São Paulo, a place with the soul of a bar. The portions are also very good, in addition to the caipirinhas, cocktails, preserves, pastries… Something a little carioca, rescuing the bohemia of the city.

Rua Campo Alegre, 86 – Pinheiros / Largo da Batata / Opening hours: Wednesday and Thursday, from 6 pm to 11:30 pm; Friday, from 6 pm to 1 am; Saturday, from 3 pm to 1 am; and Sunday, from 15:00 to 23:30
