Where do chefs eat? With Sabrina Cadetto, from Purgatory, in São Paulo

Of Italian-Venezuelan origin, the chef Sabrina Cadetto landed in Brazil about a year ago. He arrived with an extensive background in his curriculum, with stints in restaurants in different countries, mainly Spanish-speaking ones, such as Spain, Mexico and Venezuela.

The capital of São Paulo was the most recent city chosen for her to apply her knowledge with a focus on Iberian cuisine, a mixture of Spanish and Portuguese cuisine in which he is an expert.

Thus was born, at the end of 2021, the Purgatory , mix of bar and restaurant that promises to take visitors to a place between heaven and earth, with some of the best pleasures in life: good wines, great food and music.

Sabrina’s creations travel more specifically through the regions of Andalusia, in Spainand Alentejo, in Portugal. So expect a cuisine with lots of fish and seafood, jamón and croquetas.

Specialist in preparing dishes that mix the best of these two worlds and tapas, the chef uses fresh ingredients every day, such as seafood, octopus and shrimp that arrive from the coast of São Paulo daily.

But when she is out of the kitchen in Pinheiros, Sabrina tries out other flavors in the city and reveals her favorite places to eat well in São Paulo – in addition to indicating two unmissable places in Fuengirola, a coastal city in Spain, where she spent a season.

Sao Paulo

Da Mooca Pizza Shop

I was looking for a good pizzeria to eat and ended up finding the from Mooca. The house in Pinheiros serves Roman pizzas, made on rectangular baking sheets and baked in a special oven for bread making, and the dough does not contain any additives or preservatives.

Makes me want to eat them all! The flavors are varied – there are the classic margherita (R$49), marinara (R$46) and zucchini (R$51), which serve two people – and the pizzeria reminds me of when I used to eat sliced pizza in Italy, typical country street.

The House of the Pig

I love the decor of the restaurant, the presentation of the dishes and the perfect combinations of flavors. No wonder he is the only Brazilian in the list of the 50 best restaurants in the world.

Also, I confess that I don’t really like to eat pork, but when I went to the restaurant I almost ordered the entire menu! THE Chef Jefferson Rueda’s home serves a pork-focused menu – from snout to tail, no part is wasted.

Sushi with pork jowls (R$ 38) and pancetta crackling with guava (R$ 45) are some of the unusual creations, as well as the classic of the house is San Zé (R$ 79), country pork served with artisanal sausage in the embers, bean tutu, onion farofa and organic vegetables.

Sao Paulo Municipal Market

São Paulo market

I really enjoy visiting local markets and discovering new products – even those I haven’t eaten in a long time. At the “market” from downtown São Paulo, I am fascinated by the colors and smells of fresh fruit.

Here I suggest trying the famous mortadella bread in one of the shops – I almost died when I saw how big it is!

Rua da Cantareira, 306 – Historic Center of São Paulo, São Paulo – SP / Opening hours: Monday to Saturday from 6 am to 6 pm; Sundays and holidays from 6 am to 4 pm

Fuengirola, Malaga – Spain

La Caracola Restaurant

It’s one of my favorite places in Fuengirola, a seaside town on the so-called Costa del Sol in Spain. Here we can eat on the terrace with our feet in the sand. It’s the best place in the restaurant!

from the kitchen of La Caracola I really like the sardine kebabs (€7). Are the best! The menu also features other Mediterranean dishes, such as different rice dishes, seafood and a variety of fish – the specialties are grilled on a wood stove with the skin facing down and roasted in salt, then go to the oven.

Pitucca Helados Artesanos

I love to eat ice cream and the Pituccaopen since 2010 on the edge of Fuengirola beach, has delicious flavors that we were in doubt when choosing.

The Nutella one, however, is my favorite. The ice creams are artisanal and there are other interesting flavors, such as mascarpone with figs, almonds, cheese pie and nougat.

Also, I like Pitucca because the place has a privileged view of the beautiful beaches of Fuengirola.
