Where do chefs eat? With Tiago Feitosa, from Vegan Ti Burguer, in Rio de Janeiro

Self-taught in gastronomy, Tiago Feitosa he was studying administration when he became vegan. From then on, he missed animal protein-free options that spoke to his everyday life.

Then, in 2015, the Vegan Ti , in which the young man made vegetable-based marmitinhas. Tiago began to assemble PFs, which were successful and ended up at fairs, such as the Local Board, and at events, such as the House of Food, in Botafogo. Then came an idea: why not open a store?

In 2020 came the other arm of the endeavor and the first with a physical point of the brand: the Vegan Ti Burger.

Today, the 100% vegetable hamburger restaurant serves three types of hamburgers: the Federal Police , made with rice and beans with lemon or pepper mayonnaise, pickled carrots, grilled onions, spicy mustard and iceberg lettuce on a smash bread; O jackfruit dance , with grilled jackfruit, smoked tomato sauce, coleslaw and mayonnaise on Australian bread; and the Tide prepared with marinated, breaded and fried organic tofu, tartar sauce and iceberg lettuce on a brioche bun.

Outside of his kitchen, the chef enjoys honoring his neighbors in Botafogo and frequenting places with vegan options in Cidade Maravilhosa. Below, check out Tiago Feitosa’s favorite places in Rio de Janeiro:

ice cream hoba

I say that Hoba is the best ice cream parlor in Rio and on top of that it’s vegan! The ice creams are creamy and do not contain milk.

My tip is to play with classic flavors, like cremino, and try even the most differentiated, like black tahini.

hoba house : Rua Fernandes Guimarães, 49 – Botafogo, Rio de Janeiro – RJ / Phone: (21) 96478-9734 / Opening hours: every day from 11 am to 9 pm.

calm bar

Calma, located in Botafogo, is the most irreverent bar in the region.

Among the options, I love the mate drink with rum (R$24) and the vegan empanadas – they save anyone in the early hours.

calm bar : Rua Arnaldo Quintela, 51 – Botafogo, Rio de Janeiro – RJ / Opening hours: Tuesday to Sunday from 6 pm.

Chanchada Bar

Under the guidance of chef Bruno Katz, Chanchada has a vegan combo that I love: cold beer and toasted okra (R$22).

It is worth mentioning that the house has already become a point in Botafogo.

Chanchada Bar : Street Gen. Polidoro, 164 b – Botafogo, Rio de Janeiro – RJ / Opening hours: Tuesday to Saturday from 12h to 1h; Sunday from 12:00 to 22:00.

Teva Vegetal

Teva makes indisputably wonderful vegetable dishes.

My favorite orders are the starters: broccoli with green goddess sauce (R$40), Manchurian cauliflower (R$44) and Portobello mushroom carpaccio (R$52).

teva : Avenida Henrique Dumont, 110, Loja B – Ipanema, Rio de Janeiro – RJ / Tel.: (21) 99150-6044 / Opening hours: Tuesday to Friday from 12h to 16h and from 18h to 00h; closed on mondays.

amir restaurant

Amir prepares hearty and well-prepared Arabic food.

My suggestion is the falafel sandwich (R$16), which can come with Arabic bread or flat bread stuffed with chickpea dumplings with hummus, tomato, parsley, lettuce, pickles, pickled turnips and tahini sauce. It’s amazing!

amir restaurant : Rua Ronald de Carvalho, 55 – Copacabana, Rio de Janeiro – RJ / Tel.: (21) 2275-5596 / Opening hours: Sunday to Thursday from 12h to 23h; Fridays and Saturdays from 12:00 to 00:00.
