There are 1,691 patients with covid 19 in the intensive care units, while 18,719 are in the hospital wards.
At this stage, 2,548,857 virus-positive people are registered in the country.
Since the beginning of the pandemic the incidents are 8,706,915 and 141,104 people have lost their lives.
At the same time, 2,528,447 citizens are in isolation. Today, the regions with the most cases are those with capital Milan, Naples and Bologna.
The Italian Deputy Minister of Health, Pierpaolo Sileri, stated today that “by 2022, almost all Italians will” meet “the Omicron variant, unless, in the meantime, a new variant is spread”.
“Anyone who has been vaccinated will be more protected and are more likely to have milder symptoms. Anyone who has not been vaccinated is much more likely to be admitted to an intensive care unit,” Sileri told Rai television.
At the same time, Hans Klüge, regional director for Europe at the World Health Organization, told the state-run Rai Tre television channel that “in countries like Italy and Greece we are very close to spreading this variant.”
“Schools are the last to be closed. The ‘peak’ of the spread of the Omicron variant in Europe will probably be recorded earlier than expected: within two to three weeks,” Klouge said.
