Apple has begun preparations for the next major updates to its mobile platforms – iOS and iPadOS. Information has already appeared on the network about which devices will support iOS 16 and iPadOS 16.
According to the French thematic resource iPhoneSoft, which has been issuing forecasts for annual iOS updates for several years, the big update in 2022 will leave seven iPhone and iPad models “overboard”.
Note that Apple has been keeping the list of compatible devices unchanged for three years now – iOS 14 and 15 can run on the same models as iOS 13, which was released in the fall of 2019. However, it all ends someday.
As noted by the source, the list of supported iOS 16 and iPadOS 16 devices was obtained from the developer Apple. More specifically, this is a list of those devices that will be able to access the beta in June 2022.
So, smartphones based on Apple A9 SoC – iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus and the original 2016 iPhone SE will not be able to upgrade to iOS 16. As for iPadOS 16, the iPad Mini 4, iPad Air 2, iPad 5, iPad Pro 9.7 and 12.9 inches (2015) will remain without the update.
