While someone considers mobile games to be something meaningless, they earned over $ 70 billion over the past year.

In 2020, many industries are hit by the COVID-19 pandemic. But this certainly does not apply to the gaming industry, which just because of the consequences of the pandemic was able to very significantly increase its indicators.

The SuperData Research report just allows you to better understand the details, although it concerns exclusively digital sales, that is, it does not affect more than half of the console games market.

While someone considers mobile games to be something meaningless, they earned over $ 70 billion over the past year.

So, the digital gaming industry grew 12% last year to $ 126.6 billion. More than half – 73.8 billion – fell on the mobile segment, and it just grew slightly less (by 10%).

Revenue from sales of games for the PC amounted to 19.7 billion dollars, games for consoles – 33.1 billion. Again, we are talking only about digital sales.

The source also notes that the lion’s share of the digital gaming industry’s 78% revenue comes from free games. At the same time, revenue here grew by 10%, while revenue from premium games grew by 28%, to $ 24.5 billion.

It can also be noted that 34% of all revenue in the premium games segment was brought by 10 projects: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, FIFA 20, GTA V, NBA 2K21, NBA 2K20, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, Animal Crossing: New Horizons , Cyberpunk 2077, Sims 4 and DOOM Eternal.

Revenue from VR games grew 25% to $ 589 million, but this is clearly thanks to just one game – Half-Life: Alyx – which earned more than all VR games combined in 2019.
