White House asks Americans to “trust President Trump”

Investors are shaken. Consumer confidence is low. The trade war with China deepens every day.

At the end of a difficult week for President Donald Trump, elected with the promise of reducing costs and stabilizing the economy, the White House has offered advice to the American people: trust Trump.

“Trust President Trump, he knows what he is doing,” said press secretary Karoline Leavitt on Friday (11). “This is a proven economic formula,” he added.

Consumer trust plummeted 11%, according to a survey by the University of Michigan released on Friday, reaching its second lowest level since 1952. April report was the lowest of all registered during the great recession of 2008.

When asked why consumer confidence was so low, Leavitt asked Americans to have faith in the president through a tariff policy that has been causing an economic impact for weeks.

“He wants consumers to trust him and they must trust him,” Leavitt said. “See what he did in his first term,” he added.

The US president warned of short -term pain, interruptions and now “transition costs,” as he called this week while seeking to review the global commercial order and restore an industry’s “golden age”.

The story is full of presidents asking Americans for sacrifices or patience, but Leavitt said Trump wants something else: “confidence in his agenda and economic formula.”
