White House: Biden respects Supreme Court justice and does not consider expanding its composition

US President Joe Biden, who is considering taking unilateral action to challenge the “extreme” Supreme Court ruling that overturned the historic Roe v Wade ruling on the legalization of the right to abortion, said he “respects” the supreme judicial institution. said White House spokeswoman Karin Jean-Pierre said there was no need to expand its composition.

Biden is seeking solutions after the decision, which includes unilateral executive orders, said a spokeswoman for Air Force One, which transported the US president to Bavaria, where the G7 summit will be held tomorrow.

Speaking to reporters, the spokeswoman did not give any timetable for the issuance of these decrees and downplayed their importance. “Nothing can close the hole left by this decision … The only way is for Congress to take action,” he said.

However, Karin Jean-Pierre hastened to clarify that although the US President commented on the decision of the Supreme Court, the comment was about the decision itself, which is “extreme”. “Obviously, he does not question the legality of the court and respects the court …,” he said.

“In terms of enlarging the composition of the court, it is something that the president does not agree with. It is not something he wants to do,” she said.

A panel of experts set up by Joe Biden reached a stalemate last December over whether to submit a proposal to reform the structure of the Supreme Court, including expanding its composition.

Karin Jean-Pierre did not comment on other reform proposals of the commission, such as the imposition of a time limit on the term of office of members of the Supreme Court.

The spokeswoman also said she expects new state restrictions on the movement of women seeking abortion outside the state in which they reside.
