White House: Biden ‘would love to visit Ukraine’ but still has no plans

White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki said on Monday that U.S. President Joe Biden “would love to visit Ukraine,” but there are still no plans for such a trip.

Over the weekend, Speaker of the House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi met with Volodymyr Zelensky on a surprise visit to Kiev. Pelosi is the highest US official to come to the country since the start of the war.

Psaki said the White House would continue to assess the situation and underscored the Biden administration’s goal of reopening the US Embassy and having diplomats there.

“And I know the president would love to visit Ukraine, but there are no plans in the works right now,” she said.

Yesterday (1st), the chairman of the US House Intelligence Committee, Adam Schiff, suggested that a visit by Biden to the country would only be “a matter of time”.

In an interview with CNN Schiff recounted a roughly three-hour meeting that members of the Congressional delegation in Kiev had with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
