White House blames travel, flu for Biden’s CNN debate performance

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said Wednesday (3) that international travel and the flu hindered US President Joe Biden’s appearance at the presidential debate. CNN .

Pierre, however, stressed that the factors were not an “excuse” but rather an explanation for the American president’s weak performance in the clash against Donald Trump.

“The only reason we’re sharing this is because I was asked to be here, and the president certainly wanted to provide an explanation. And that’s what he did yesterday. We understand that it wasn’t his best night. It wasn’t a great debate. And we understand what supporters saw, what the American people saw, and what all of you saw. And so we wanted to provide an explanation,” she said during a press briefing.

Biden was in France and Italy two weeks before the debate and has traveled around the United States.

The president’s top advisers have repeatedly cited his aggressive schedule during international travel as examples of his vitality and ability to get the job done at age 81.
