The White House accused Elon Musk this Friday (17) of repeating a “disgusting” anti-Semitic lie in his social network this week, calling it an “abhorrent promotion of anti-Semitic and racist hatred” that “counters our fundamental values as Americans.”
“It is unacceptable to repeat the sickening lie behind the most fatal act of anti-Semitism in American history at any time, let alone a month after the deadliest day for the Jewish people since the Holocaust,” said Andrew Bates, White House spokesman. , in response to the publication of Musk on Wednesday, referring to Hamas’ Oct. 7 attack on Israel.
Representatives of Musk or X, formerly Twitter, could not immediately be reached for comment on the White House statement.
Previously, X had refused to comment on the publication of Musk endorsing post that falsely claimed that members of the Jewish community were inciting hatred against white people.
X’s executive president, Linda Yaccarino, wrote on Thursday (16): “When it comes to this platform — X has also been extremely clear about our efforts to combat anti-Semitism and discrimination. There’s no place for that anywhere in the world — it’s ugly and wrong. Full stop.”
Repercussion
On Friday, Walt Disney Co, Warner Bros. Discovery, Apple and Lionsgate announced they were suspending advertising on X. The day before, IBM followed suit and canceled all advertising on the platform after a report found that its advertisements were placed alongside content promoting Adolf Hitler and the Nazi Party.
Advertisers have been fleeing the platform since Musk purchased it in October 2022 and reduced content moderation, resulting in a significant increase in hate speech on X, civil rights groups said.
