The White House today expressed its “gratitude” to former President Donald Trump for making and promoting the commemorative dose of the Covid-19 vaccine.
The former Republican president recently revealed that he has taken the commemorative dose and described the vaccines as “one of the greatest achievements of humanity”. “Those who get seriously ill and go to the hospital are the ones who do not get the vaccine,” Trump said in an interview with conservative presenter Canda Owens. “If you get the vaccine, you are protected,” he added.
“We are grateful that the former president made the commemorative dose and we are also grateful that he made it clear in a recent interview that (vaccines) work and are safe,” said Jen Psaki, a White House spokeswoman.
Only 62% of Americans have been fully vaccinated, one of the lowest rates among developed countries, in part because of the “resistance” of some Republicans to President Joe Biden’s campaign.
Trump revealed in an interview with Bill O’Reilly on Sunday that he made the memorial dose, an announcement that provoked strong public disapproval.
More than 800,000 Americans have died from Covid-19. This year most deaths are recorded among the unvaccinated.
