The White House said it will hold a summit to address questions about hungry nutrition and health in the United States on September 28 in Washington.
US President Joe Biden said in May that the event will help achieve his administration’s goal of ending hunger in the country and reducing food-related illness for most Americans by 2030.
A previous such event in the US was held in 1969, according to the White House.
“Lack of access to healthy, affordable food is one of the many factors affecting hunger and nutrition-related disease. The Covid-19 pandemic has further exacerbated these challenges,” White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said in a statement.
The summit – which is expected to bring together government leaders, academics and activists – will produce a national strategy that identifies the actions the government will take to “catalyze the public and private sectors to drive transformative change and address the intersections between food, hunger, nutrition and health.” , added Karen.
The White House added that the summit would aim to address ways the US can reduce disparities among communities most affected by these issues.
The venue for the event and a specific list of attendees have yet to be announced.
