US President Donald Trump today reinforced the desire to attach Greenland and made new threats of his tariff war against the world.
Trump again said he needs the territory for “international security.”
“I think we go as far as necessary. We need Greenland, and the world needs Greenland, including Denmark,” said Trump.
The speech goes against the last steps of the White House, which had reduced the agenda of Jd Vance’s visit to the Danish territory. Now, the vice president goes only for an American military base in the region to meet with troops and “find out about Arctic Protection issues.”
Vance is at the same time involved in the controversy of war information leakage in a group of messages with the presence of a journalist. Jeffrey Goldberg, editor of The Atlantic magazine, has published new details of the conversation.
In the excerpts, Pete Hegseth, Secretary of Defense, details weapons, aircraft, schedules and even the climatic condition of the venue. According to the magazine, the information was received two hours before the bombing began.
The Trump government tries to control the situation. White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt said the content contained no war plans and that Trump had access to shared information.
“I would characterize this conversation as a policy discussion, a sensitive discussion about policies, undoubtedly between high office officials and senior members of the team,” Leavitt said.
The speech was repeated by Hegseth.
“No one is sending war plans. Well, I noticed this morning, something that doesn’t look like war plans, and in fact, they even changed the title to ‘attack plans’, because they know they weren’t war plans,” says Hegseth.
National Intelligence Director, Tulsi Gabbard, and CIA director John Ratcliffe had to witness to the Senate Intelligence Commission on the case. Both were in the group during the message exchange.
Trump avoided the theme, minimizing the situation and saying that it is all a witch hunt, a term that often uses to say a victim of political persecution.
The president also went back to the tone of the tariff war and announced 25% rates in cars and mini imported trucks to the United States. He also confirmed that he will apply new taxes against foreign remedies and sawn wood.
