White House: Russian invasion would seek to violently ‘crush’ Ukrainian people

A Russian invasion would seek to “crush” the Ukrainian people, according to US intelligence, White House National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan said today.

“If Russia invades Ukraine, it will be a war against the Ukrainian people, to stifle it, to crush it, to injure it,” the senior official told NBC.

A Russian military operation would therefore be “particularly violent” and “would cost the lives of Ukrainians and Russians, whether civilians or soldiers,” Sullivan added.

The United States has already warned the United States of the existence of a blacklist by Moscow that it wants to exterminate in the event of an invasion, according to Washington, according to an official letter obtained by AFP yesterday.

Washington has “credible information that Russian forces are compiling lists of Ukrainians to be killed or sent to camps in the event of military occupation” of Ukraine, according to a letter to the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights.

An American diplomat warns in this letter that a Russian invasion of Ukraine could lead to abuses, such as kidnappings or torture, and could target political dissidents.
