The eighth sol (Martian day) of the stay of the American Perseverance rover on the Red Planet has gone. On the upper arch of the rover, three silicon chips are fixed, on which 10,932,295 names of earthlings are laser-engraved with lines less than one thousandth the thickness of a human hair (75 nm).
This is the result of NASA’s PR campaign “Send Your Name to Mars”.
Last year, the US Aerospace Administration invited everyone to “visit” the Red Planet: the names entered in the database were recorded on fingernail-sized microchips, which were fixed under a glass screen on a rover on March 14, 2020.

It also contains the essays of 155 finalists of the NASA “Name an all-terrain vehicle” competition.
