The World Health Organization (WHO) expresses its deepest concern at the spread of the coronavirus in Europe, at a time when the European continent is facing a new outbreak.
According to the BBC, the WHO Regional Director, Dr. Speaking to the British News Network, Hans Kluge warned that up to 500,000 deaths could be reported by March if action was not taken immediately against the pandemic. He even suggested increasing the use of masks, as it would help stop the virus immediately.
The warning comes at a time when many European countries are recording record cases and are crowned with total or partial lockdowns.
According to Dr. Kluge, the recovery of the pandemic is due to the winter, the low vaccination coverage and the predominance of the highly contagious Delta strain.
The WHO official said that compulsory vaccination is the “last resort”, but should be preceded by a “legal and social consultation”.
