WHO: Funding and vaccines requested from G20 countries for COVAX

A senior World Health Organization official said today that talks are under way with the G20 countries. (G20) richest countries and emerging economies of the world, including India and China, in relation to financial and vaccine donations COVAX, reports the RES.

Bruce Ellward, senior adviser to the WHO Director-General and Coordinator of the ACT, also told reporters that the WHO wants the United States, EU member states, Britain, Canada and Japan to assist with installment donations.

The official said that the proposal submitted last Friday by the EU to the World Trade Organization to expand access to vaccines against Covid-19 did not go far enough, and said that the abolition of patents “would add value”.
