Sidney Magal and Magali West met in 1979, when he was a judge and she was a candidate for the A Mais Bela Estudante de Salvador competition. At the time, Magali was just a 16-year-old student, while the singer was 29. Their union was made official a year later, in 1980.
On the “Roda Viva” program in early 2024, the artist also said that he knew he wanted to marry and have children with his beloved the moment he saw her. The marriage proposal, according to him, came before the two even had their first kiss.
“To this day I have not been able to find a viable explanation for what I felt. I told her all this the next day I saw her. I hadn’t talked, I hadn’t kissed, I hadn’t done anything at all. This moved them to the point where they wanted to make a film about it”, said the star.
In an interview with CNN the star said he would have even given up his career for his loved one.
“My manager wanted to transform me into a great idol in Latin America. To him, that meant I had to be single, traveling and dating 500 women. But when I met Magali, I knew it would be different. If she wasn’t by my side, I would hardly have continued with my career. I would be able to give up everything. For me, human beings need to be happy. The career may end, the songs may be forgotten, but my love, my life with Magali will be with me forever”, he stated.
Their relationship is portrayed in the biopic “My Blood Boils for You” (2024) . The feature film, starring Filipe Bragança (Sidney Magal) and Giovana Cordeiro (Magali West), is available on the Netflix streaming platform.
Currently, the couple maintains a discreet relationship out of the spotlight. Together, the couple has three children and one granddaughter.
