Who hasn’t heard of names like Taylor Swift, Shania Twain and even Blake Shelton? However, for some time now the genre has a new “darling”: Morgan Wallen .
With almost 30 years old, the singer dominates the charts in the USA and Canada, mainly after the release of his third studio album, “One Thing At a Time” (“One thing at a time”, in literal translation), on the day March 3.
The main success of the time is “Last Night”, one of the 36 tracks of the new album. The song occupies the 1st place in the playlists “Top 100: United States”, from Apple Music, and “Top 50 – United States”, from Spotify – ahead of hits like “Flowers” by Miley Cyrus, “Kill Bill” by SZA and “As It Was” by Harry Styles.
On Billboard, “Last Night” appears in fifth place on the “Billboard Hot 100”, and Morgan Wallen occupies the third position among the most heard artists. It does not stop there!
In Apple’s streaming playlist, the top 13 songs are by Wallen. On Spotify, five of them are among the ten most played.
WHO IS MORGAN WALLEN?
Morgan Wallen was born in 1993 in Sneedville, a small town in Tennessee, where Nashville, the “country capital”, is located. He rose to fame in 2014 when he participated in the American version of the reality musical “The Voice”.
At the time, the singer did not advance to the final stages of the program, but success in the American music industry came four years later, with “Whiskey Glasses”, a song from his 1st album “If I Know Me”. In 2020, he released “Heartless” – a partnership with DJ Diplo and singer Julia Michaels.
Over the years, the artist gained space in country music and became one of the main names of the new generation of the genre. His songs usually address topics such as the consumption of alcoholic beverages (mainly whiskey) and love relationships (which do not always work out).
CONTROVERSIES
In May 2020, Wallen was arrested after being thrown out of a Nashville bar for disorderly conduct and public drunkenness. The singer was released hours later after posting bail.
A few months later, he had his participation in the “Saturday Night Live” program canceled after disrespecting social distancing measures during the Covid-19 pandemic. At the time, a video that went viral on TikTok caught the country star without a mask at a party.
In February 2021, Morgan Wallen was involved in another controversy after being recorded saying a word considered racist and offensive. At the time, he lost contracts, and many radio stations withdrew his songs from their schedules.
After the incident, the singer told TMZ that he was “embarrassed and sorry” and said he needed to take steps to educate himself about racism. “I promise to do better,” he said at the time.
