Who is Random, at his first time on the Sanremo stage

He did not choose the stage name, «Random» by chance, as the literal translation of the word might suggest. Instead, it was the desire to make one’s self international that pushed the boy, twenty years old in April, to convert his surname to English. Emanuele Case, who left Naples at the age of two to follow his parents to Riccione, then became Random, the rapper – one of many – wanted by Amadeus for the Sanremo of the relaunch.

Random, however, did not arrive at Ariston with the air of a traditional rapper, and that sense of extraneousness that the conflict between genre and tradition should see arise.

Emanuele Caso, who composed and sang for the Festival, I come back to you it seemed to enter a smarter rut. Hybrid, almost. Because Random, like Coez already, seems to have understood the value of compromise, the importance of producing universal music, which can transcend labels to speak to anyone who is listening to it.

It is something else, something more pop, as it was I’m a good guy a little bit out of my mind, single released in May last year. The song, then, was a hit: twelve million views on Youtube and the gold disc certification, due (perhaps) to participation in Special Friends.

Random, who has repeatedly said he had tried, unsuccessfully, to participate in the talent of Maria De Filippi, was counted among the protagonists of the spin-off. And, thanks to the resonance of the format, he reached a huge audience, to which he was able to tell a short and intense story, of a young man who grew up halfway, between Campania and Romagna, arrived at music with Chiasso, Lipstick, with the last Marionette sung together with Carl Brave.
