Who is Ronnie Lessa, identified as Marielle Franco's killer

Ronnie Lessa is identified as the killer of councilor Marielle Franco and driver Anderson Gomes. He is a retired sergeant from the Military Police of Rio de Janeiro. In March 2019, one year after the crime, former military police officers Élcio de Queiroz and Ronnie Lessa were arrested, accused of driving the vehicle used on the night of the crime and shooting the victims, respectively.

Lessa is suspected of having fired thirteen shots from an HK MP5 submachine gun at the car where the victims were. Four years after the deaths of Marielle and Anderson, in 2023, the Rio de Janeiro Military Police expelled retired sergeant Ronnie Lessa from the force.

During investigations, the Public Ministry of Rio found that Lessa had assets incompatible with the income of a PM sergeant and lived a life of luxury, with properties and speedboats. Investigations show that Ronnie Lessa carried out research on the CPF and address of councilor Marielle Franco and her daughter Luyara Franco two days before the crime. This research was done from a private credit research website.
