Who is the “Professor”, leader of the faction that bought weapons from Europe to Rio

The Federal Police (PF) names drug trafficker Fhillip da Silva Gregório, 36, known as “Professor”, as responsible for purchasing 43,000 weapons and ammunition for the criminal faction Comando Vermelho in Rio de Janeiro.

According to investigators, the “Professor” was negotiating with Argentinean Diego Hernan Dirísio, the main weapons seller in South America, who is on the run. The weapons passed through the border between Brazil and Paraguay and were sent to Complexo do Alemão, where “Professor” is the leader of organized crime.

There, according to the PF, Gregório increased the military power of the largest faction in Rio de Janeiro to commit crimes in the city and prepare attacks against rivals.

PF agents carried out a search and seizure warrant at addresses linked to him. Other members of the group were also targets.

The PF identified that rifles and pistols produced in Turkey, the Czech Republic, Slovenia and Croatia were sent not only to the Rio faction, but also to the Primeiro Comando da Capital (PCC), in São Paulo. Before, they passed through Paraguay, where their records were scraped.

PF investigations show that the Professor has been monitored within the Complex for more than three years. Inside the favelas, mainly in Fazendinha, he undergoes medical treatments, such as dental and hair implants. Sources say it would be a strategy to avoid being arrested if he leaves the region.

Balance of operation
At the end of Tuesday (5), the PF released an overview of the Dakovo operation. There were 14 arrests in Paraguay, 5 in Brazil, and 38 search and seizure warrants. The court ordered the blocking of R$66 million in assets and values belonging to those being investigated.

A CNN did not find the Professor’s defense.
