Emily in Paris welcomed its “first real villain” in season four – and her name is Genevieve. Of course, senior editor Jessica Radloff made sure to remind Star of Genevieve’s most egregious act of the season: mistakenly telling Emily that Gabriel didn’t want to see her anymore. “Yes, that’s right,” Star admitted. “She said that.”

“I wanted to bring in a character that Emily could be, in a way, a mentor to – Emily 2.0, like a young Emily – but also give her some sort of interesting story tied to Sylvie and her husband,” Star told Glamour: “Sylvie has a past. Sylvie has a full life that we are always discovering. All we know about Sylvie is what we know from work, and so we are always discovering more about Sylvie’s life. And this is a part of Sylvie’s life and her very complicated relationship with her husband.”

Whether Genevieve is truly “that bad” or not, many fans definitely have strong feelings towards her.

Unfortunately, it’s quite common for fans to vent their vitriol for a character on the actor who plays him, especially when the actor is relatively unknown. Don’t do it!

“Please don’t do this to Gabriel and [Sylvie]you just started and destroyed two people 😭😭🤣🤣🤣 Be nice next season please”, a fan recently commented Emily in Paris on Besson’s Instagram. A friendly reminder: Besson is not a writer on the show and cannot control his character’s arc.

Of course, some fans are also leaving nice comments: “Your character in Emily in Paris is driving me crazy… but you are beautiful,” wrote one fan. How should Besson respond? Thanks, I guess. Another wrote: “You are a good actor because I seriously hate your character in S4.”

He has very strong family ties to the entertainment industry. The 23-year-old actress is the daughter of French director Luc Besson and Canadian-French producer Virginie Besson-Silla.

You may know Luc Besson as the screenwriter and director of The Fifth Element (1997) or as co-writer of Taken (2008), as well as many other projects. For her part, Virginie Besson-Silla has produced films such as Everything Everywhere All at Once (2022) and Lucy (2014), also written and directed by her husband.

According to IMDB, Besson started with a small role in the sci-fi film Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets (2017)directed by Luc Besson and directed by Cara Delevingne. Besides that, she has only been credited as an actress in two other roles besides Emily in Paris.

In December 2023, Deadline announced that Besson would join the cast of Tritonan upcoming fantasy horror film starring Jude Law’s son, Rafferty Law.
