WHO says Delta variant, not Ômicron, is Europe’s main problem

The World Health Organization (WHO) said on Tuesday (7) that, although the Ômicron variant is “in sight and on the rise”, it is the Delta variant that is the problem in the region at the moment.

The speech is by the WHO regional director for Europe, Hans Kluge, at a press conference during the presentation, which focused on data from Europe and Central Asia related to coronavirus.

“However, if we succeed against Delta today it is a victory over Ômicron tomorrow,” Kluge said, adding, “We are in the business of stabilizing a pandemic and that means not one variant at a time, but all the variants at once . “

He stressed that it is still unclear whether the Ômicron variant is more transmissible or causes more or less serious diseases.

“It is still not known how and whether the latest variant, Ômicron, of Covid-19 will be more transmissible or more or less serious”,

There were some positive signs coming from South Africa, where the Ômicron variant is responsible for the majority of new coronavirus infections.

Doctors reported that cases caused by the new variant are generally mild, although they cautioned that it is still early days and evaluations are limited.
