Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? Winner Reveals Rare Tumor Diagnosis

Journalist Jullie Dutra, winner of the Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? segment on the Domingão com Huck program (TV Globo), revealed on Thursday (18) that she was diagnosed with a rare tumor when she was pregnant.

The news was received by the woman from Pernambuco in 2020, during the Covid-19 pandemic. She has a schwannoma tumor in the mental foramen, an area located near the root of the premolar teeth. According to the post made by Jullie to share the diagnosis with her followers, this type represents 0.07% to 0.36% of intracranial facial tumors.

“In 2022, I underwent a surgical procedure, not to remove it, but to extract a small splinter and take it to a laboratory in São Paulo to report the biopsy. The result: benign. However, it is a tumor that compromises the sensitivity of 1/3 of my lower lip and I am still under close observation,” he reported.

She also stated that, since 2022, she has been undergoing medical follow-up to monitor a nodule that appeared on her thyroid.

The initiative to open up about the subject was taken by Jullie as a demonstration of support for the Green June campaign, orchestrated by the Brazilian Society of Head and Neck Surgery to encourage examinations and the consequent early diagnosis of tumors like hers.

“Early diagnosis and preventive monitoring, as in my case, saves lives,” wrote Jullie.

Jullie became a millionaire

The journalist from Pernambuco became, in December 2023, the first person to take home the R$1 million prize from Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?, a segment that Luciano Huck has presented since 2017, when he was still in charge of Caldeirão.

Jullie Dutra lives in Salvador and is the mother of Maria Helena, 3, who is on the autism spectrum. A trained journalist, she heads the marketing agency she founded and wants to pursue a career as a diplomat, according to GShow.

The money she earns can provide a better life for her daughter, help her pursue her professional dream, and buy a house for her beloved mother.

Her father was murdered when Jullie was just 5 years old and her mother suffered a stroke when she was ready to travel to Spain to study for a Masters in Investigative Journalism.

“Dedicate yourselves to yourselves, women. Dedicate yourselves to your studies,” she told GShow. “Don’t expect anything from a patriarchal society. Always matriarchal.”
