The bodies and minds of children in Gaza are being destroyed after two months of helping help and new attacks, said the executive director of the Emergency Program of the World Health Organization (WHO).
Since March 2, Israel has blocked the entry of medical supplies, fuels and food in Gaza.
“We are destroying the bodies and minds of Gaza’s children. We are killing the children of Gaza de Hunger. We are accomplices,” Michael Ryan’s executive director, reporters at WHO headquarters, told the program.
“As a doctor, I’m furious. It’s an abomination,” he added.
Israel says the decision to block supplies aimed to press Hamas to release hostages, as the ceasefire agreement was stagnant.
“The current level of malnutrition is causing a collapse in immunity,” Ryan said, warning that cases of pneumonia and meningitis in women and children may increase.
Israel previously denied that Gaza is facing a hunger crisis. The country did not make it clear when and how help will resume.
The Israeli military accuses Hamas of diverting help, which the group denies.
The United Nations warned this week that acute malnutrition among Gaza’s children was getting worse.
