Who was the elite college teacher killed in a robbery in SP

Capoeira teacher Eduardo de Souza, 42, killed at dawn on Sunday (2) in Mauá, in the metropolitan region of São Paulo, was a scholar and defender of Afro-Brazilian culture, according to his friends.

Also known as Professor Toli, Souza taught capoeira classes at Dante Alighieri College, one of the capital’s most traditional private schools and taught crafts for children from other schools. “It took many boys from the bad way,” said capoeira master Fernando Santos Ramos, who was a teacher of Eduardo.

According to the São Paulo Public Security Bureau (SSP-SP), Eduardo had his motorcycle stolen and was injured with a shot at dawn on Sunday in Mauá.

The Military Police found him unconscious at the scene of the theft, triggered the help, but he could not resist. The stolen motorcycle was set on fire at Jardim Alzira Franco, in Santo André. Police seek the perpetrators of the murder.

According to Ramos, Professor Eduardo was a great capoeirista and began his career in his capoeira group at Armageddon school. “He made a career with me, here in Mauá. Then he was selected to teach in São Paulo and started working in the group of Mestre Flávio. He was very happy, had traveled to several countries representing the capoeira of Brazil. ”

He tells how his friend earned Toli’s nickname. “In all the wheels and presentations, he was always the first to answer present, which earned him the nickname to Toli Tola. Over time, we adjusted his nickname to Toli, which he proudly carried through his life. ” Toli Tola is a reference to the title character of an ancient Blue Cobrinha animation, based on a reptile famous for the speed with which he pursued his prey.

Also according to Master, Toli was single and lived with his parents, in Vila Magini, in Mauá. He had renovated his parents’ house and, for security, was thinking of changing the motorcycle for a car. “There was no time, he went to participate in the parade of his Carnival block at Anhembi and, on the way back, when he turned in Capuava (Mauá neighborhood), two bandits tried to steal the motorcycle. They took the motorcycle and shot him. Let’s wait for the police to examine the cameras to know what happened. ”

The news of Eduardo’s death was received with great unbelief. “Upon seeing my friend Master Meinha’s post, I ran to his house to confirm, but the reality was hard. My boy is gone. He gave me a lot of pride when he was training with me and kept filing me with admiration with his work. ” Ramos recalls that Eduardo even developed a handicraft project with PVC pipes. “It was a talent that went beyond capoeira, always seeking to grow and contribute to what he learned.”

Capoeira Mestre Flávio Caranguejo, Bamba de Bamba teacher, knew the teacher and accompanied his work for 26 years. “He was very friendly, dear to everyone, but it didn’t give it soft. He was the one who unfolded things, made walking. Even teaching in Dante, continued to come to our capoeira and bring culture, information. What amazes me most is that he did a great job to help the children of those communities to get out of violence, and he himself was the victim of this violence. ”

Eduardo’s funeral and burial at the Vale dos Pinheirais cemetery in Mauá gathered more than one hundred people, including dozens of capoeiristas. “We made a tribute to him by playing atabaques. It was a great loss for capoeira, because he did a great job, teaching children how to do atabaques with PVC pipes. Many boys got off the bad way and went to a better path to his hands, ”said Ramos.
