A child shows from a very early age his predisposition in relation to which hand he is most comfortable using, either for playing or, later in school, for writing. Evidence shows that nine out of ten people are right-handed, an imbalance that researchers have been trying to explain for decades, but still struggle to explain. Historically, men – who competed more fiercely for goods and mates – are slightly more left-handed than women. In addition, studies show that left-handers tend to outperform right-handers in combat sports, as well as in sports that require hand-eye coordination, such as tennis, baseball and volleyball.
