Why did Jared Leto climb the Empire State Building?

If you’ve ever walked along 34th Street in Manhattan, you may have seen a man in a red jumpsuit scaling the Empire State Building. While this would normally be a cause for alarm, in this case there was no need to worry. It was simply about the Oscar award Jared Letowho crossed an item off his to-do list.

Although he is known for employing some questionable acting techniques when he gets into character, Leto wasn’t preparing to play King Kong. Rather, the star of Morbius he climbed the skyscraper to promote his band 30 Seconds to Mars’ upcoming world tour, which will run from March to September 2024.

Leto did not climb theentire Empire State Building. He began his climb on the 86th floor and continued along the east side of the building until he reached the 104th floor. The feat took about 20 minutes.

In an exclusive interview with Today, the star of Suicide Squad told what it was like to climb one of the most famous monuments in the world: «To tell the truth, I was more excited than nervous», Leto said, «but I have to be honest, it was very, very difficult. It was very difficult. It was much harder than I thought. It was a lot harder than I thought it would be, just because of the endurance it took, the strength it took and the intensity with which it was faced.”

When I was little I wanted to be an artist and New York was where you came to be an artist. And the Empire State Building has always been that symbol for me.”

Leto is not only an artist, but also an avid climber. In 2016 he directed a five-part documentary entitled Great Wide Open in which he explored national parks such as Yosemite and Yellowstone. Leto is also good friends with the star of Free Solo Alex Honnold. Despite being passionate about Yosemite and Yellowstone, Leto stated a Today that what he really loves to do is climb city buildings; He even once climbed the wall of a Berlin hotel without a harness: “It’s a really fun thing to do,” she said.
