Why did Russia stay out of Israel’s conflict with Iran?

After several days of air and missile attacks between Israel and Iran, the ceasefire announced by US President Donald Trump on Tuesday after bombing nuclear facilities of the Islamic Republic. However, one question remains: why did Russia with which Tehran signed a security agreement early in the year did not help Iran during the conflict? Dimitar Bechev, director of the Dahrendorf program at the St Antony’s College European Studies Center, writes in Foreign Policy that Putin’s choice is guided by weakness.
