Why does it shrink 24 hours? – the mysterious phenomenon of the Earth this summer

If you are one of those who make the most of every minute of the day, then you definitely appreciate the 86,400 seconds of 24 hours. But yesterday, on July 9, the Earth removed a small but measurable, part of that time and will do the same on July 22 and August 5th. On these days, our planet accelerates inexplicably – or at least not fully explained – its rotation, reducing the day of the day by 1.3 to 1.5 mm a second. One milliseconds looks minimal – an opening of the eyelids lasts about 100 mm of a second – but with the 450 individual watches that monitor the speed of the Earth’s rotation with incredible precision, every millimeter counts.
