The impact of intense use of social networks on people’s mental health is a growing concern for physicians and researchers on the subject. British actor Tom Holland, interpreter of Spider-Man in theaters, announced his temporary departure from social networks last week. In a video, he told fans that he will use the time to take care of his mental health.
The case is not uncommon among celebrities. Names like Selena Gomez, Camila Cabello, Luísa Sonza and Whindersson Nunes are some of the examples of those who had to leave the internet to preserve their minds.
But you don’t need to have a legion of followers to suffer from the intensive use of networks. In 2019, before the Covid-19 pandemic and the increase in the incidence of mental illness, a study found that 41% of young Brazilians associated the use of social networks with feelings of sadness and anxiety.
In this episode of E Tem Mais, Carol Nogueira presents an overview of doubts about the relationship between the long time spent on the internet and mental health.
To describe how to deal with cases of mental exhaustion and psychological damage influenced by online life experiences, psychiatrist Pedro Pan, president of the Ame Sua Mente Institute, and psychologist Andrea Jotta, from the Research Center for Psychology in Informatics at PUC -SP.
