Why is All Saints Day celebrated?

I know Halloween it is a festival more pagan than ever, those that follow it of Saints and Dead they are deeply Catholic. They are traditions of the Church that have also entered the feasts of the State in Italy, but are also celebrated in the rest of the world. In 2021 the feast of All Saints, November 1, falls on a Monday, that of the dead on Tuesday 2, only the first is a holiday also for the secular calendar of the state, not the second.

WHO CELEBRATES
The feast of All Saints, which is also called All Saints’ Day, is celebrated on November 1 by the Catholic Church and some Protestant rites. The pope recites the Angelus at noon. For the Orthodox it falls on the first Sunday after Pentecost.

THE NAME AND THE RELATIONSHIP WITH HALLOWEEN
There are those who hypothesize a link between the date of November 1st and the Celtic holiday of Samhain which would also be at the origin of Halloween, on the evening of October 31st. On this occasion the dead would return to the places where they had lived. The name is a Scottish variant of the name All-Hallows-Eve, that is, the night before All Saints’ Day which would be All Hallows Day.

ALL SAINTS
All Saints in Latin is the feast of all the saints. Canonization, becoming saints, decrees that a dead person is officially in Heaven. It goes beyond beatification because it allows for veneration as a saint. If your name does not have a corresponding saint in the calendar, today is the best day to celebrate, everyone is there.

ORIGIN
Already in the fourth century after Christ the first churches commemorated the martyrs. The dates, however, were different, ranging from the Sunday following Pentecost, to April 20, to May 13, the date on which the Pantheon, in Rome, was transformed into a church by Boniface IV in 609 and consecrated to the Virgin Mary and the martyrs.
