Why Putin is ‘in no rush’ to end the war in Ukraine – The change in his strategy

“As is often the case, Mr Vladimir Putin he wasn’t there to deliver the bad news. On the day Russia announced the withdrawal from the Ukrainian Kherson, the Russian leader toured a neurological hospital in Moscow, making no mention of the monumental decision,” writes the British Guardian in its analysis entitled: Putin “is in no hurry” as the retreat from Kherson signals a change of strategy.

Instead, it was Russia’s Defense Minister, Sergei Shoigu, and his commander in Ukraine, General Sergei Surovykin, who explained that holding Kherson was no longer possible.

Putin’s silence became even more deafening on Thursdayas the Ministry of Defense announced in its daily briefing that “in strict accordance with the approved plan” began to retreat from Chersonathe only regional capital occupied by Moscow since the beginning of the war.

“Putin is in no rush to end the war. He sees this as a long, large-scale conflict with the West.”, says. “He is an opportunist by nature. His strategy now is to see how things are until the end of winter and then reassess his strategy“, he adds.
