“Wicked” writers don’t believe in spoilers: “There is a play”

The first part of “Wicked” hit theaters in November this year and fans are already eagerly awaiting the second part of the story, scheduled for release in November 2025. While Many worry about the possibility of receiving spoilers as the two features are made from the adaptation of the famous Broadway musical of the same name, The film’s writers don’t really believe in it .

“[A peça de teatro musical] it didn’t premiere yesterday, it’s been showing for 21 years”, explained Winnie Holzman, one of the film’s screenwriters, alongside Dana Fox, in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. “Not just in the United States, everywhere. The play is on tour and in many languages.”

“There is a play. There are some answers you might know, whatever it is. If you go looking and find out for yourself, you can learn these things. And nothing more,” Fox added.

The musical will even return to Brazil next year, for a season at Teatro Renault, in São Paulo.

The two, however, are touched by the affection they are receiving from new fans of the story meeting the characters for the first time in the cinema, and said they understand the fear of receiving spoilers.

“I really feel for them. I really do,” Holzman added. “We’re getting these responses from people who are so sincere and genuine, and that’s why we do this.”

The two reported the pressure of adapting the original material from the play, loved by so many fans around the world, to the cinema.

“We never thought, ‘How can we turn Wicked into something else?’” Holzman said. “However, it is something else. It’s a totally different version of the same thing.”
