Widow of driver Anderson Gomes is the 4th witness to testify to the jury; see what was said

The fourth among the seven prosecution witnesses to give testimony, this Wednesday (30), during the trial of those accused of the execution of Marielle Franco and driver Anderson Gomes, is Agatha Arnaus, the boy’s widow murdered on March 14, 2018 , while driving the car where the former councilor and then advisor Fernanda Chaves were.

The driver’s widow began her speech by recalling her husband’s personality. “Anderson was a wonderful person, he always wanted to be a father, when we started dating he talked about it and he loved the children in the family”, he said.

Agatha recalled that he started working early and used to be a very responsible professional. The husband wanted to be a father and the couple had their son Arthur, a disabled child. “It was the most difficult time in our lives, dealing with all of Arthur’s situations,” he said.

“I have no regrets about who I chose to be my husband, who Arthur’s father is […] my friend, my companion”, said the widow. When the driver died, the boy was 1 year old. To date, the child has undergone seven surgeries.

Day of the crime

The wife says that, on the day of the murder, Anderson went to take some exams that were the last step in a selection process in which he was participating to work at an airline. “He was an aircraft mechanic, it was his lifelong dream, his father was too,” said Agatha.

He had become unemployed in 2016, so he started working as an app driver. He then began working as a driver in some election campaigns, until he began providing services to Marielle.

A message sent by Anderson to his wife was shown in court. The audio was sent by him about 40 minutes before he was murdered. He said:

“Hi love, how are you there? I’m here at a lecture on Rua dos Inválidos. Marielle is giving a talk here, I’m very tired, we’re leaving around 9 o’clock at night. It’s running out upstairs and so I take her home and then I go home. I hope that tomorrow she asks to support you later”

According to the witness, the couple’s son would undergo an exam the next day.

Family memories

Moved, the widow spoke about how much she misses her husband: “it will never go away, because there will always be something that will be the first time without Anderson. The first time Arthur walked, the first time Arthur said ‘mommy’, the first time Arthur went to a new school, the first time Arthur had a friend…”.

During the trial, the video of the moment Agatha reveals her pregnancy to her husband was shown.

“Anderson had had an illness before he met us and people said he couldn’t be a father. We did some exams beforehand. At some point he thought he wouldn’t be able to do it,’ the woman revealed.

“He was the person who made any day, no matter how horrible it seemed, better with simple gestures. Arthur lost that person, the person who made the world better. To this day, I have never met another person with this energy, with Anderson’s good will. he didn’t need to receive anything in return”, continued the widow.

Asked about expectations surrounding the trial, Agatha was emphatic: “I hope to see the people who took me (my husband), who took Anderson away from Arthur, pay for what they did.”
