Silva said the threats are nothing new to them: “Yes, our family has always received threats and has always been victims of persecution.” She noted that her husband’s position as a prominent voice of the opposition in Venezuela puts them at constant risk.
The wife of the kidnapped leader emphasized the courage needed to maintain an opposition position in the Venezuelan political scene: “Having a voice like that of my husband, a national leader in our country, an opponent, means that we are living under threat and persecution as a family and he, as a political leader.”
