The wife of the physical education teacher, arrested in São Paulo for a kidnapping that took place in Iguape, on the coast of São Paulo, at the time he was working, attributed the arrest to racial prejudice.
“A few weeks ago, a rich white man killed an Uber worker, paid 500 thousand in bail and the judge thought he was good, he should be released. And the family that pays rent, has a child to support, what’s it like?” asked caregiver Claudia Gomes, during an interview with CNN .
She said she was outraged by the arrest of Clayton Ferreira Gomes dos Santos, aged 40, last Tuesday (16) in São Paulo. They have been together for 13 years.
Claudia said that her husband received a notification by mail, asking him to go to the 26th police district for clarification on a police report opened online.
When he arrived at the police station voluntarily, his arrest was announced. “He was terrified. He said that they had already put him in a cell saying that he had carried out a kidnapping in Iguape, while he was teaching in São Paulo”, highlighted Claudia.
Clayton was accused of participating in a kidnapping and the theft of R$11,000 from an elderly woman in Iguape, on the coast of São Paulo, on October 31.
At the time of the crime, however, he was teaching at the Rubens do Amaral state school, in the south of São Paulo, 200 km away from the kidnapping site.
The wife said that the recognition was made through an old photo. “The victim recognized him from an old photo, bald, with glasses, and he has had black hair for over a year.”
Claudia also highlighted that the accusation points out that he was driving the car at the time of the kidnapping, and he does not have a National Driving License. “My husband doesn’t drive, he doesn’t have a driver’s license, we don’t have a car, we’ve never been to this city,” she said.
Claudia said she can't wait for her husband to be released. “What I want most is to see him coming home, being able to move around his house, eat what he likes, watch the sports news that he likes,” said his wife.
She fears problems at work and hopes he returns to work. Currently, Clayton works at Escola Estadual Maria José, in Bexiga, central region of São Paulo. “I hope that the school staff understand all this and are kind to him.”
